In honor of Mother’s Day, Ellen DeGeneres decided to enlist one of her friends who is a mother of three children to help her co-host Thursday’s “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

As part of the episode, co-host Jennifer Garner shared a few details about her experiences with motherhood, including that the doctor told her she wasn’t pregnant with her first child. (Garner is mom to three kids with Ben Affleck. The couple is reportedly in the process of divorcing.)

Garner told DeGeneres said that her initial at-home pregnancy test was so faint that it was hard to tell if she was pregnant or not, but she felt certain that she was. Nevertheless, she went to her doctor for a “proper test,” after which the doctor told her she wasn’t pregnant.

“I was like, ‘Yeah, I am. I’m telling you I am,'” Garner said. “And so [Violet’s] 12, and I don’t use that doctor anymore, but I do have her, so I won!”

Garner also offered a humorous take on both the joys and pains of motherhood in a music video co-starring DeGeneres.

What starts as a tender acoustic ballad about how motherhood “is a beautiful thing” that “fills your heart with joy and makes you want to sing” quickly transitions into a rap about some of the physical side effects of motherhood.

“Imagine squeezing something out the size of a watermelon,” Garner quips. “How much pain is that? There’ll be a lot of swellin’.

“And breastfeeding? It ain’t simple,” Garner continues. “One false move and you’ve got a cracked nipple.”
