isn’t exempt from some of the unglamorous aspects of parenthood, but at least she can lean on her famous peers for advice.

In an interview with People magazine, the Cambridge native said her A Wrinkle in Time co-star Reese Witherspoon, who has three children, shared some helpful advice on being a new mother amid the traveling required by her work. The 38-year-old writer and actress gave birth to her first daughter, Katherine Swati Kaling, in December.

“Over text message, Reese talked me through how to carry an infant car seat on the airplane,” she told People. “We’re doing so much international travel, and she was giving me really practical advice on how to carry a screaming baby on the plane. The most useful!”

Not to be outdone, Kaling’s fellow A Wrinkle in Time co-star Oprah Winfrey also gave her something for her newborn daughter: A castle-shaped custom bookshelf with 100 children’s books from the last century. Kaling described it as the “gift that just keeps giving for years and years.”

Kaling has said that’s she’s excited by motherhood, in part because it’s “so unknown to me.” That feeling doesn’t appear to have faded.

“I love looking at her and figuring out who she’s going to be,” Kaling told People, referring to her daughter. “It’s so much fun!”
