Watch John Krasinski do push-ups as part of the 22 Push-Up Challenge

He's helping to raise awareness for veterans’ mental health.

On Monday, Newton-bred actor/buff person John Krasinski posted a video on social media of himself doing push-ups, but for reasons that go way beyond being #hashtag #fit.

Krasinski was nominated by Chris Pratt, his actor pal and fellow buff person, to do the 22 Push-Up Challenge, through which people record themselves doing 22 push-ups to raise awareness for veterans’ mental health. U.K. charity Combat Stress launched the challenge, using the number 22 to represent the approximate number of veterans and active soldiers who die from suicide each day.

Similar to the way the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge took social media by storm in 2014, raising $220 million worldwide from donations, the 22 Push-Up Challenge aims to generate awareness by having participants nominate friends for the challenge and to help spread the word.

Upon cranking out 22 push-ups, Krasinski nominated buff actors Miles Teller and Chris Evans (a Sudbury native), as well as his very own trainer Jason Walsh, to do some push-ups of their own. Other famous people who have completed the challenge so far include Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Scott Eastwood, Cynthia Erivo, and Vincent D’Onofrio.
