Matt Damon: ‘I’m excited to finish out this year of work and take a year off’
Matt Damon announced Thursday that after he’s done shooting his fifth straight movie without a break, he will take a year off from acting to spend time with his family.
“I’m excited to finish out this year of work and take a year off and be at their behest for once,” Damon said when he stopped by the Today show to talk about his return as super-spy Jason Bourne after nearly 10 years.
Damon, a father of four, explained that his family has traveled with him to various movie sets. He called them “really good sports” and “great travelers,” but also said that they’re all ready for the break.
The Cambridge native also joked that he is ready for a break from the strenuous fitness routine and strict diet he’s been adhering to in order to get in shape for his role as Jason Bourne.
When Damon also stopped by Live with Kelly Thursday morning, he said the work that went into his new physique was “not worth it.”
“I’m 45 now and I would tell any 45-year-old guy—to all the guys out there who are wondering—I will tell you it’s not worth it at all,” Damon said. “No, it’s too much work at our age to do that. It’s just a lot of work and dieting too. I love to eat and I love going to eat with my wife and you can’t eat anything.”
Damon added that he found dieting to be hardest when he was preparing—and munching on— his kids’ dinner.
“With my kids I call it taxes,” he joked. “‘Daddy’s taking some taxes,’ but I wasn’t allowed to take taxes while I was getting ready for Jason Bourne.”
