Caitlyn Jenner is gracing the cover of this week’s Sports Illustrated, making history as the first transgender athlete to ever be on the front of the glossy.

The issue commemorates 40 years she won the Olympic decathlon at the 1976 Montreal games as Bruce Jenner. She won the gold medal decades before her public transition last year, which she first spoke publicly about in an interview with Diane Sawyer in April 2015.

In Jenner’s SI profile, the former athlete revisits her victory, what Olympic glory means to her, and how both have shaped her to be the person she is now. The story is accompanied with a short documentary called Jenner: 40 Years After Gold.

Sports Illustrated’s cover image also shows Jenner sporting around her neck the very gold medal that she won 40 years ago. As writer Tim Layden notes in the profile, this is the first time Jenner publicly wore the medal around her neck since the Games.
