Country singer Carrie Underwood sang to a packed TD Garden Tuesday night, but she surprised a few special fans with one-on-one time before the show.

Underwood has partnered with Carnival Cruise Line to help raise money for Operation Homefront, a nonprofit that supports military families and wounded warriors with everything from food assistance and home repairs to personal recovery.

One of those families was able to meet the award-winning performer Tuesday night, WCVB reports.

Aaron Van Huysen has spent 17 years with the Coast Guard and is a highly decorated chief warrant officer, according to WCVB. This means he’s had to move his wife and two daughters around multiple times. The family now lives in Mashpee.

The Van Huysens got to hang out with Underwood before her performance and were also surprised with a Carnival cruise, where they’ll join hundreds of military families on a trip to New York City for a private Carrie Underwood concert.
