Sting performed at Sundance in honor of NH-raised journalist James Foley

The musician wrote a song that appears in the documentary

Sting performed at the Sundance ASCAP Music Café this past weekend. He was in Park City to support Jim: The James Foley Story, a documentary about New Hampshire-raised journalist James Foley, who was killed by ISIS in 2014.

Jim will air on HBO February 6. It was directed by Brian Oakes and co-written by Boston.com employee Heather MacDonald, both childhood friends of Foley’s.

Academy Award-nominated composer J. Ralph asked Sting to work on a song for the film. Called “The Empty Chair,’’ it’s written from Foley’s point of view and evokes an image of an empty chair during Thanksgiving, Consequence of Sound reports.

Sting performed it alongside Ralph in Park City, Utah, on Saturday, and Foley’s family was in attendance to hear.

“I think the film is a wonderful antidote to all the nonsense we hear in the world, Sting said on stage before launching into “Every Breath You Take’’ to close the set. “This was an extraordinary testament to real manhood and real courage and genuine goodness. I implore you to go see this film.’’

The ASCAP did not record “The Empty Chair’’ performance. However, you can watch video of “Every Breath You Take’’ below and read more about Jimhere.
