Mark Ruffalo discusses his two Boston film Golden Globe noms on The Tonight Show

Both Spotlight and the lesser-known Infinitely Polar Bear are nominated.

Jimmy Fallon congratulated Mark Ruffalo on his Golden Globe nominations for two Boston-based films, Infinitely Polar Bear (Ruffalo is up for Best Actor) and Spotlight (which is up for Best Picture) on Thursday’s episode of The Tonight Show.

Ruffalo said he was surprised by the Infinitely Polar Bear nom, in which he plays a bipolar man who has to care for his two daughters in Boston while his wife attends graduate school in New York.

“A lot of people didn’t see it,’’ Ruffalo told Fallon.

Spotlight, the true story of the investigation by Boston Globe reporters into the systemic sexual abuse of children within the Catholic Church, has been staying afloat at the box office, however.

“You’re just a good journalist, going out there, trying to get the story,’’ Fallon said, before playing a heartbreaking scene that Ruffalo previously said he found really moving.

Fallon complimented Ruffalo’s transformation into Globe Spotlight reporter Mike Rezendes, saying “even down to the wardrobe, I thought, was very Boston.’’

“That’s his wardrobe,’’ Ruffalo replied. “He literally brought his wardrobe [to set].’’
