Page Six is still trying to make Gisele’s burqa happen
As Page Six continues its coverage on the outrage caused by Gisele Bündchen’s burqa disguise, it reveals that the only one that’s actually upset is Page Six.
It’s been 13 days since The New York Post’s take-no-prisoners gossip column Page Six exposed Gisele Bündchen for reportedly wearing a burqa to a plastic surgery appointment last month.
In case you missed its coverage, Page Six is here to remind you about it.
Page Six has published several follow up stories referring to the burqa sighting, many of which include outrage. “Middle East unites in mocking Gisele’s burqa’’ said one Page Six headline. One from August 2 reads, “Gisele a laughingstock in Brazil for trying to hide boob job.’’
The latest story, however, concludes Gisele finally had “the nerve to show her face’’ for the first time “since sneaking’’ into the plastic surgery clinic. It’s kind of hostile and accusatory, considering much of the commotion is based on a photo that may or may not be Gisele. The report says she was spotted, sans burqa, “at a New England airport’’ deplaning with her two kids and dog, an action that is so regular it’s not even captivating in the “stars are just like us!’’ sense.
Richard Lawson at Vanity Fairbelieves that Page Six seems angrier about the possibility of deception. How dare Gisele try to keep her appointments private like some sort of regular human being?
Of course, the exposé is the name of the Page Six game. Gisele is a public figure and Page Six is, after all, one of many gossip columns. If it wasn’t Page Six, it might have been another outlet. But, again, to Lawson’s point, it’s rather ironic that if Gisele did wear a burqa, she did it to avoid any sort of Page Six headline in the first place.
Most of this sheds light on the bigger picture of “celebrity,’’ doesn’t it? People in the spotlight “hide’’ so photos of them doing things that are otherwise uneventful don’t emerge at all. Like getting off a plane. Or going to a plastic surgery appointment in the heart of Paris like the rest of us.
Bündchen’s representatives have not immediately responded to a request for comment.
