Matt Damon vs. Jimmy Kimmel: A timeline

September 2006: As the ongoing joke went, back when Jimmy Kimmel Live! wasn’t yet featuring its first-rate guests, Kimmel used to end his show by pretending the show ran out of time for its last guest, Matt Damon. When Matt Damon does finally make it to the show, Kimmel recaps the times he said Matt Damon was bumped from the lineup. The recap is so long that by the time Matt Damon actually makes it to the chair, the show runs out of air time. Damon goes faux-crazy.

June 2007: Kimmel’s sidekick Guillermo goes to the “Ocean’s Thirteen’’ premiere, where he runs out of time to talk to Matt Damon on the red carpet.

August 2007: Kimmel spoofs Matt Damon’s movie “The Bourne Ultimatum,’’ but bumps Damon from his role only to be replaced with Guillermo.

January 2008: Damon finally retaliates with a video alongside Kimmel’s then-girlfriend and comedienne Sarah Silverman. It’s a surprise birthday video called “F*@#ing Matt Damon,’’ in which they joke about…well, you know.

February 2008: A few weeks after “F*@#ing Matt Damon’’ aired, Kimmel’s makes a rebuttle video called “F*@#ing Ben Affleck.’’ Brad Pitt, Robin Williams, Cameron Diaz, and other celebs make cameos.

February 2010: In a post-Oscars special featuring famous guys like John Krasinski, Patrick Dempsey, and Rob Lowe, Kimmel is voted out of the “Handsome Men’s Club.’’ Matt Damon is there to laugh and slam the door on Kimmel’s way out. It ends up being just a nightmare, and when he awakes, Ben Affleck is there for support.

Feburary 2012: In another post-Oscars show, Kimmel creates a parody trailer for “Movie: The Movie.’’ Huge names like George Clooney, Emily Blunt, and Colin Farrell star in the fake movie, but Matt Damon’s role—as human grapes—is cut.

February 2013: Kimmel releases a parody trailer for “Movie: The Movie’’’s sequel, called “Movie: The Movie: 2V.’’ Among the many celeb cameos is a “revolutionary motion capture performance’’ by Matt Damon eating a sandwich.

February 2014: The cast of “The Monuments Men’’ appears on Kimmel’s show, but Matt Damon is exiled from the couch. He is finally promised his chance to talk at the end of the show, but unfortunately time runs out when a “fire’’ breaks out in the studio. Sorry, Matt Damon.

Feburary 2014: Damon is featured in one of Kimmel’s uber-popular ‘Celebrities Read Mean Tweets’ series, only to be ridiculed by Kimmel himself.

January 2015: Following Tom Brady’s Deflategate scandal, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Chris Evans, and more famous Patriots fans admit to being the “Locker Room Guy.’’ Kimmel appears in Damon’s bit, only to mock him some more.

February 2015: In another post-Oscars special, Kimmel airs a sketch called “The Kimmel School of Perfect Acting.’’ It’s an inside look at Kimmel teaching A-list actors how to act, including Matt Damon, who is assigned to portray a lamp.

June 2015: Kimmel makes fun of Damon’s new movie, “The Martian,’’ in a parody on “JKL!’’ He uses voiceovers to alter the plot, and tries to make it seem like Damon is crying—a lot.

September 2015: The feud has been on-going for years at this point, so Damon and Kimmel agree to resolve their issues in couples therapy. “To be fair, I like his show,’’ Damon says. “I wouldn’t have waited for 12 years to get on if I didn’t like his show.’’ The rest of the session goes downhill until the two come to a resolution: To keep Damon on deck as a “JKL!’’ guest for another 12 years.

February 2016: Actress Alicia Vikander appears on Kimmel’s show, and the twol bond over their mutual enemy: Matt Damon. “I know everyone tells everyone that he’s, like, the sweetest dude, but I worked with him,’’ Vikander says about filming “Jason Bourne’’ together. Looks like Kimmel is seeking out allies.

February 2016: Ben Affleck returns to the scene in Kimmel’s 2016 post-Oscars episode. This time, Affleck tries to smuggle his buddy Damon into the “JKL!’’ studio, proclaiming the feud has gone on long enough. Kimmel disagrees and ejects Damon from the studio. “I was actually nominated for an Oscar and I can’t get on the Oscars show?’’ Matt asks. No Matt, you can’t. You never will.

February 2016: In that same post-Oscars episode, Kimmel airs a “deleted scene’’ from “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.’’ Kimmel himself appears in the spoof, along with the movie’s stars, Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and Jesse Eisenberg. In it, Superman forces Kimmel to go to Mars against his will. He runs into Matt Damon, who is channeling his character in “The Martian.’’ Since the two of them are stuck on Mars alone, Damon thinks he and Kimmel should start their own talk show where Kimmel is the host and Damon is the guest. Kimmel immediately rejects the idea. “I’m just going to go over there and die alone,’’ Kimmel says.
