Nimoy’s Voice Was the Soundtrack for New England Field Trips
Leonard Nimoy passed away Friday at the age of 83. Nimoy, of course, will be remembered for his iconic performance as Spock on Star Trek. But for a generation of New Englanders, Nimoy was also the soundtrack of their field trips.
The Boston native narrated the “New England Time Capsule,’’ a short film which for years was shown before the main feature at the Museum of Science’s Mugar Omni Theater. The 180-degree screen, massive sound system, and panoramic views of the city shot from moving aircraft wowed visitors in the 1980s and 1990s, years before HDTVs were installed in every home.
