Did Elizabeth Warren get a shout-out in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’?

J.K. Rowling has given local Harry Potter fans plenty of excitement in recent months: first with the announcement of a witchcraft and wizardry school in the Berkshires, and now with what—at first glance—appears to be a name-drop of Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren in the newly released Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The series’ latest installment features numerous appearances from old characters in the series, including a cameo from the endearingly teary ghost and Hogwarts bathroom-dweller, Moaning Myrtle.

Back in 2015, Rowling revealed that the character’s full name is Myrtle Elizabeth Warren, though she was quick to clarify that Myrtle had no connection to the muggle Sen. Warren.

In the new story, Albus Potter (Harry’s son) and Scorpius Malfoy (Draco’s son) encounter Myrtle in her old stomping grounds: the girl’s bathroom. She goes on to correct the boys when they use her nickname: “Myrtle Elizabeth Warren—a pretty name—my name—no need for the moaning.”

The real-life Warren seems to be a fan of the Harry Potter series. Following the announcement of Massachusetts’s magical school, Warren tweeted at Rowling about a potential change in career.
