‘501 Baseball Books Fans Must Read Before They Die’
Ron Kaplan’s “501 Baseball Books Fans Must Read Before They Die’’ (University of Nebraska) is divided into 15 chapters, one for each genre from analysis to books for young readers. The chapter on autobiography, biography, and memoir is second in length only to the one devoted to history books. Kaplan, who hosts the Baseball Bookshelf blog, writes and edits sports and feature stories for the New Jersey Jewish News. He offers his take on every one of the books he’s included. If fans don’t like what they see happening on the field this season, Kaplan has loads of suggestions for reading about better days. JAN GARDNER
