These Mass. breweries are all brewing special beers for International Women’s Day

The local beer community in Massachusetts has exploded in recent years, with new breweries opening all the time. A Nielsen study found that women have been a big part of the craft beer industry’s growth. The Pink Boots Society is a nationwide advocacy group aiming to help women advance and close the gender gap in beer-related fields.
One of the organization’s largest yearly events, timed to occur around the same time as International Women’s Day (this year, on Thursday, March 8), is a collaborative brewing event during which women across the country brew a specialty beer. Proceeds going toward education programs for women hoping to work in the beer industry.
According to Mass. Brew Bros., 24 Massachusetts breweries, including Trillium, Cambridge Brewing Company, Notch, and Cape Ann Brewing, all brewed up something over the last few days. Each brewery used the same mix of hops, but many chose to brew different types of beers, from New England IPAs to saisons.
Most of the local breweries will release their specialty beers in late March or in early April, but one brewery, Night Shift Brewing in Everett, is releasing its beer, a sour ale called St. Hildegard, at a Thursday night release party in its taproom from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
