60+ breweries will help kick off SoWa’s opening weekend next month

Say hello to spring.

Massachusetts Brewers Guild

A massive new beer festival spotlighting suds from 60 Massachusetts breweries is descending on a corner of the South End for one day in April. The Power Beer Fest will bring together the lengthy lineup of breweries, which will serve two-ounce pours of up to four of their brews,

according to Rob Burns, president of the Massachusetts Brewers Guild and a co-founder of Night Shift Brewing.

“Sixty times four—that’s a lot of different beers. It’s not recommended that you try them all,” Burns said. “A ticket buys you as many samples as you can responsibly consume.”

The festival, complete with superhero-themed iconography, is a fundraiser for the Brewers Guild, a nonprofit that promotes the interests of craft brewers in Massachusetts. More than 120 craft breweries currently operate in the state, and dozens more are slated to open in 2017, according to a guild spokesperson.

“Everyone in the state was invited,” Burns said. “[The festival] will be the most Massachusetts brewers ever in one room. … This is different than other beer festival because it is put on by the brewers, for the brewers. It’s solely focused on local beer.”
