Lamplighter just released two beers brewed with mandarin oranges
In cans!
Cambridge-based Lamplighter Brewing Co. just launched two beers brewed with mandarin oranges, and the two new citrusy suds are available in cans.Skyward, a zesty dry-hopped IPA brewed with Satsuma mandarins, and Sound & Vision, a sour ale brewed with mandarin juice, hit shelves Wednesday at the Cambridge taproom.
“We decided to use mandarins in the beers because we tried a Satsuma for the first time a few months ago while out to dinner, and were absolutely floored by the incredible balance of sweet and sour and the general explosion of flavor from the fruit,” said Cayla Marvil, the brewery’s co-founder. “We thought the profile would be super interesting in both an IPA and a sour, and wanted to experiment a bit with titrations and the juice.”
Bluerock Design, which has designed all of Lamplighter’s artwork, took charge of stylish labels on the cans.
“We wanted something that was simple and easy to glance at and read, but still involved some artwork that corresponded to the beers,” Marvil said. “It’s really fun for us to come up with names and then match graphics to the names—this was one of those instances.”
