Beer

Boston Calling now has its own beer

Festivalgoers can try a taste of BC Dream this weekend.

Special festival-only beers have become more and more common as the institution of big summer shows has grown larger.

Phish teamed with Sierra Nevada in 2009 to produce FOAM, a beer named after one of the band’s songs, which was served at their Festival 8 that same year. Bonnaroo and High Sierra both have have their own beers as well, and continued to host their own mini craft beer festivals.

Mikkeller, a Danish experimental brewer, will collaborate with Boston Calling.

This weekend, Boston Calling will debut its own beer, a hoppy pilsner brewed with California blood oranges called BC Dream. The beer comes as a result of a partnership with Danish brewer Mikkeller, a company that does not operate one single official brewery, but instead concocts experimental one-off beers as part of collaborations with things like music festivals or other events.

According to a Boston Calling spokesman, the beer is 4.6% ABV, with low bitterness and floral aromas. The primary hops used to brew it were Galaxy, Simcoe, and Amarillo, leaving the beer with a fruity expression, and a slight sweetness and light color from the oranges.

BC Dream will be available at Boston Calling this weekend for nine dollars. For those who aren’t interested in experimenting, the festival is offering its Samuel Adams options as well as wines curated by Wine Riot.
