Video: Gawk at the Harvard Museum’s gleaming glass flowers
The Harvard Museum of Natural History is stuffed with animals past and present. With thousands of taxidermic and preserved animals in its halls, from common birds to now-extinct mammals, the museum teaches visitors so much about the planet’s creatures, without them needing to move a muscle.
And then there’s the glass flower exhibit, a collection of more than 4,000 near-perfect glass replicas of plants produced by a father-son glassworker duo from Germany. The mind-boggling accuracy of each gleaming piece ensures the flora holds its own with the fauna at the museum. Museum executive director Jane Pickering took Boston.com on a tour of the exhibits, showing a triceratops skull, a wriggling horseshoe crab, gleaming minerals, and much more.
