You can visit the ICA for free for Inauguration Day ‘reflection and conversation’

The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. Institute of Contemporary Art

The Institute of Contemporary Art announced that it is offering a “pay-what-you-wish” price deal on Friday. Admission is usually $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, $10 for college students, and free for those 17 years old and under.

In its release of this special pricing, the ICA included an image of artist Nari Ward’s shoelace canvas piece “We the People,” seemingly suggesting that the the change in admissions pricing is linked to Friday being Inauguration Day.

The ICA furthered this idea by stating in its announcement that artists and their work help bring people together.

“At the ICA, we believe strongly in the role of museums to advance discourse and engagement with the aim of creating a more open and just society,” the statement continued, “and we invite all in our community to join us in reflection and conversation on January 20 and in the weeks, months, and years to come.”

The museum is open until 9 p.m. Friday.

“We the People” will be on view at the ICA beginning April 26. Ward, an artist originally from Jamaica and then Harlem, created it in 2011 to examine issues surrounding racism, poverty, and discrimination, among others.
