Mural of man on the former Hancock Tower is coming down
In September, a mural of a man on the side of Boston’s tallest building appeared 500 feet in the air.
On Wednesday, the mural on the former Hancock Tower will start to disappear, according to a tweet from the man behind the seven-story tall, temporary public art installation, French artist JR.

Boston Properties owns the building, now named 200 Clarendon.
“The JR art installation was part of a temporary public art program and was initially planned to be on display for six weeks, which was extended to seven months due to positive feedback from the general public,” Bryan Koop, Executive Vice President at Boston Properties, said in a statement. “For more than 40 years, 200 Clarendon has been an iconic fixture of the Boston skyline. We are thrilled to have had JR temporarily use the building as a canvas for his thoughtful piece and thrilled to be engaging Bostonians in a conversation about public art. We look forward to continuing the conversation in the future.”
