Artwork from Shepard Fairey, the man behind the iconic Barack Obama ‘Hope’ poster, will be sold to the highest bidder in Boston this weekend.

The Massachusetts College of Art and Design will celebrate the 27th MassArt Auction this Saturday. The event showcases over 300 contemporary pieces from photography and paintings to fashion and jewelry.

“We think of MassArt as this wonderful secret in the city of Boston so this small auction is a great way to have blue chip artists work next to emerging and student artists,” Marjorie O’Malley, the executive director of the MassArt Foundation, said.

Fairey isn’t the only “blue chip” artist to be featured at the MassArt Auction. This year’s event will feature works from Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, print artist Roger Tibbetts, emerging artists, and student artists. O’Malley said this year’s auction received over 1,000 submissions from artists looking to have their pieces featured in the auction.

Though the 700-person auction and party is sold out, the event’s artwork can be viewed online. Bid prices as of Friday morning ranged anywhere from $1,000 to upwards of $10,000.

The auction benefits scholarship aid and academic program support for the college’s students and anything from half to all of each piece’s proceeds will benefit the that depending on the individual artist’s declaration.
