Watch this up-close HD video of Myrtle the Turtle enjoying a delightful snack
If you can't make it to her feeding at the Aquarium for World Turtle Day, this video has you covered.
Thanks to the American Tortoise Rescue, May 23 has been known as World Turtle Day since 2000. The nonprofit encourages people to “shellebrate” the reptiles and raise awareness of their disappearing habitats around the world.
Myrtle, the New England Aquarium’s 550-pound green sea turtle, made an appearance on her designated Facebook page Monday morning in honor of the holiday.

The Aquarium and Mass Audubon, a wildlife conservation organization with sanctuaries across Massachusetts, have received attention for their turtle rescue efforts recently.
Each winter, turtles get stranded on the New England coast, trapped in the cold water as they try to migrate south. November 2014 to January 2015 was a record-breaking season for these incidents, according to the Aquarium; Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary rescued more than 1,000 cold-stunned turtles during that period.
