A Maine animal shelter is attracting adopters with this provocative sign
That’s one way to get attention.
The SPCA of Hancock County in Maine has a new sign that reads: “live nude dogs, free lap dances.’’
It was posted Sunday, and it’s already had an impact on the shelter.
“I can’t believe how much attention we’re getting with this,’’ Diana de los Santos, director of the SPCA of Hancock County, told Boston.com. “Which is fine with me.’’
Typically, the sign has information about an upcoming event or tips for dogs owners, but the more lively sayings bring the most people through the shelter’s doors. Last year, they posted one that read, “The only balls your dog needs are the ones he fetches,’’ which also boosted traffic.
Most people laugh at the sign, de los Santos said, stopping to take pictures as they drive by. Still, some complain that it’s offensive and inappropriate for children.
“I can’t please everybody,’’ de los Santos said. “If you think that’s tasteless, well, what I think is tasteless is people who don’t keep their pets forever and dump them in a shelter.’’
The sign has also drawn more attention to the shelter’s Facebook page. One family found it and started looking through other photos on the page, coming across a red pit bull who had been in the shelter for months. They’ve since adopted her.
“It’s done its job. It’s got a lot of people talking,’’ de los Santos said. “Whatever it takes to find animals homes.’’
