FOOD & DRINK

Greenway food trucks return

It’s food truck season, Boston! The Rose Kennedy Greenway’s food truck program is officially back for the season. This year’s 21-truck roster includes everything from crepes to Creole barbecue.

Here are this year’s notable newbies:

🍕 Si Cara Pizzabar. These gorgina Neapolitan-inspired pies were ranked one of the top 50 in the country in 2025 — and with this perfectly charred crust, we can see why. You can catch them at Dewey Square on Thursdays and Fridays.

🍔 Rockin’ Burgers. If you’ve ever thought: “I wish this burger was filled with mozzarella sticks,” this is the spot for you. On the menu: Giant burgers, sandos, and milkshakes with fun seasonal flavors (hey, shamrock shake!). They’ll be at Dewey Square on Tuesdays and Rowes Wharf Plaza on Wednesdays.

🍛 Lordya Gourmet. Lordya is serving up authentic Haitian eats, from griot to Creole barbecue. Just look at these stunning plates! Plus, all the food is cooked by owner Marie Saint-Jean and her family, so you know it’s made with love. Try it at Dewey Square on Thursdays.

🥞 Crepe Shop Boston. From savory pesto and cheese to this wild ice-cream and sprinkle-topped situation, you can choose your own crepe-venture here. But if you ask them, they’re picking banana caramel with a scoop of ice cream. It’ll be at Dewey Square on Thursdays and State Street on Fridays.

🍢 Kebabish. If you’re craving an NYC bodega-style halal plate, Kebabish is your spot. Think: Plates and wraps piled high with chicken, lamb, and falafel. Their rec: The chicken over rice. They’ll be at Rowes Wharf Plaza on Wednesdays … as soon as their truck is back from the mechanic!

🍩 Daddy’s Fried Dough. This old-school fried dough truck has been slinging boardwalk-style treats in Boston since 1991. Think: classic fried dough, fresh lemonade, and rainbow Italian ice. Catch them at State Street on Thursdays and Fridays in the North End.

🍦 Noonan Concessions. This truck is giving big school carnival energy with its menu of ice cream, fried dough, slushies, cotton candy, and popcorn. Fittingly, they’ll be at the Greenway Carousel on Wednesdays, and at Milk Street on Fridays.

📅 P.S. Dewey Square and Rowes Wharf Plaza locations open April 1. The rest will kick off May 1.

Quick & dirty headlines

🏆 Mass. got snubbed by the James Beard Awards. And by that, we mean the state received zero nominations this year. Despite 13 nods in the semifinalist lineup, none of them made the final cut, which dropped on Tuesday. That said, New England will still be well-repped, with a Best New Bar nod for Providence’s Loma, a cozy, low ABV and zero-proof bar; an Outstanding Bakery nod for Super Secret Ice Cream in Bethlehem, N.H.; and many more. The award ceremony is on June 15. Here’s the full list.

⛽ We’ve entered $4 gas territory. On Tuesday, the average U.S. gas price hit $4.02 per gallon — the first time it’s cracked $4 since 2022 — as the Iran war pushes fuel prices up nationwide. Here in Boston, we haven’t quite crossed the threshold yet, but we’re getting very close. Suffolk County’s average gas price was $3.94 as of Monday, slightly higher than the state average of $3.82. It’s unclear where prices will go from here, but if the war continues, experts say there’s a good chance they’ll keep rising.

🕳️ Spring is back, and so are potholes…. Mid-to-late March is pothole season in New England, and according to a Globe analysis, Boston’s 311 has already gotten a whopping 4,811 pothole repair requests this year. A few interesting tidbits: The most requests come from East Boston (555), Allston/Brighton (459), and Dorchester (401), while the median time it took the city to fix a constituent’s pothole request is ~42.5 hours. You can peruse all the pothole data here. Pro tip: If you do hit one, don’t slam the breaks!

🏈 The Pats are getting the docu-series treatment. For the first time in franchise history, the Patriots will be featured on the 2027 season of “Hard Knocks,” the longtime NFL docu-series that follows a team through training camp. The team managed to skirt the show under famously media-averse coach Bill Belichick for years thanks to rules that allowed playoff teams to opt out. But the league has since tweaked the rules to make teams more compliant — and current coach Mike Vrabel seems to be more on board. “Can’t wait,” he said.

ONE LAST THING

The Real Housewives of … Boston?

Illustration: Luis G. Rendon/The Boston Globe

New England finally has a “Real Housewives” franchise. But why wasn’t it Boston? That was the question Globe reporter Beth Teitell set out to answer.

After all, it’s not like we don’t have housewives. There are plenty of rich moms on Beacon Hill, nepo babies on Nantucket, and tech bro wives in the Seaport. Plus, plenty of smaller cities have made the cut (see: Salt Lake; Potomac). And fans want it! So … what gives?

The answer: Apparently, we’re just not reality TV material. According to WROR host Lauren Beckham Falcone, Nantucket folks wouldn’t do it, and regular Boston types’ real lives just aren’t as glitzy and glamorous as the show demands. “It would be like putting a hippo in a tutu,” she said.
