Lest you may have been thinking that the resurgence of vinyl records was just a flash in the pop culture pan, take a look at this statistic: Vinyl sales in 2023 were up a whopping 14% from the prior year, with Americans buying 49.61 million platters in total during that period, according to Forbes. (Yes, Taylor Swift alone was responsible for 7% of those sales, but a stat’s a stat.)
With that in mind, and with this year’s Record Store Day coming on April 20, we thought it would be a good time to update our guide to independent record stores in Greater Boston. Last year, readers ranked Deep Thoughts JP in Jamaica Plain as their favorite local record store, with strong showings for Inclusion Records in Norwell, Looney Tunes in Allston, and many others. You can vote for your current fave using the form below.
More importantly, we’d like to update our guide with new record stores whose doors have opened in the last year, and (sadly) remove any that have shuffled off this mortal coil. (We’ll never forget you, Vinyl Destination of Lowell!) You can mention those transitions in the form or in the comments section below, or email us at [email protected], and we may feature your response in a future Boston.com article or on our social media channels.
Voting will close Wednesday, April 17 at 11:59 p.m.
