As the largest science museum in the region, the Museum of Science in Boston’s West End boasts over 700 interactive exhibits, as well as live and interactive presentations in the building each day, a planetarium and IMAX movie theater.
The museum dates back to 1830 as the Boston Society of Natural History, which started as an organization of seven men who wanted to share their interest in science and collecting and studying natural history.
After changing its name to the Boston Museum of Science in 1939, and relocating from the Back Bay in 1951, today you’ll find the museum located in Science Park.
Today the Museum of Science is one of the largest science museums in the world. Drawing around 1.5 million annual visitors, it is Boston’s most visited cultural institution and a prominent landmark in the city’s West End.
The museum currently houses permanent exhibits such as Colossal Fossil, a 65-million-year-old triceratops fossil, and the Hall of Human Life, an interactive human body exhibit, as well as live displays such as Lightning!, which contains the world’s largest air-insulated Van de Graaff generator to produce indoor lightning bolts.
Other notable features include the New England animal habitats, planetarium shows, and the giant T-rex statue outside of the building.
With so many different exhibits, displays and activities to choose from, we want to know what’s captivated your attention or keeps you coming back.
Whether you’ve visited recently or many years ago, we want to know the most memorable part of your experience, and the must-see attraction you’d recommend to others.
