Tell us: How is the Orange Line shutdown going for you?
We want to know how your commute is getting impacted.
When the MBTA announced the monthlong closure of the Orange Line, riders across the region prepared themselves for the worst-case scenario of unreliable shuttle buses and gridlock traffic. Now that the shutdown has begun, we want to know what the commuting experience is actually like.
The shutdown, which will continue until Sept. 19, is intended to allow the MBTA to do serious repairs on the Orange Line. In the meantime, riders will have to navigate the changes with shuttle buses and alternate T options.
The first day of the closure came and went with relatively few hiccups, according to officials. MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak said he was “feeling good” after a smooth start to the closure, but he still warned that commuters should be prepared for crowded roads if they intend to drive in the city.
“Just because things have gone relatively smoothly today does not mean you should jump back in your car,” he told WCVB. “Please continue to avoid these diversion routes. Also want to continue to emphasize the Commuter Rail as an alternative travel option for all for Orange Line riders.”
We want to hear from readers who are navigating this service disruption. How has the Orange Line closure impacted your commute so far? Are things running as smoothly as MBTA officials say or is the transition harder than you thought it would be?
