Readers: How do you think Boston compares to NYC?

It’s the age-old fight: Boston vs. New York City. Some say New York City is the best city in the world, but apparently, not every New Yorker will agree with that bold claim.

The New York Post has notoriously ragged on our beautiful city in the past, but after a recent trip to Boston, one columnist publicly admitted that Boston is actually everything New York wishes it could be

“After 904 nights of sleeping in Manhattan’s Midtown West, I took a three-day trip — to exotic, faraway Boston,” Nicole Gelinas wrote. “What I found there was shocking: normalcy. Boston is a liberal city — but it is also a pragmatic city.”

Gelinas cites Boston’s relative public safety as cities elsewhere in the country experience a rise in crime and violence thanks to policies by Mayor Michelle Wu and former Mayor Marty Walsh. While some readers have been critical of the policy actions of local politicians, it seems from the outside looking in, Boston’s not doing too bad.

Bostonians are a proud people, so when U.S. News & World Report ranked Boston as one of the best cities in the country, most readers couldn’t help but agree. And some just couldn’t help but compare the city to New York.

“Boston is like New York but a smaller, shinier version. It has water, mountains, and beautiful parks,” Maria H. told Boston.com. “It is the greatest place to live, but please don’t tell anyone else. The traffic sucks enough already. We don’t need anyone else moving here.”

But we’ve also proven to be realistic when it comes to admitting this city’s faults. Boston.com readers were the first to admit the city’s got nothing on New York’s entertainment scene, for example.
