As a community, we’re all better off when we take the time to volunteer for causes that help others.

We often think of the holidays as the time for giving back, but there are causes in need of support all year round. This week, April 17 through April 23, is National Volunteer Week, a time to highlight the work being done by people who take time out of their lives to help others.

About one-third of Massachusetts residents have volunteered, according to 2017 data from the Corporation for National and Community Service.

The last couple of years of the pandemic may have made it harder for some to do their typical volunteer work, but it also showed just how important it is to lend help to neighbors and strangers alike whenever possible.

In honor of National Volunteer Week, we want to give readers an opportunity to share their experiences volunteering and put a spotlight on the causes they care about. With your help, we’ll create a guide featuring the nonprofits, charities, and organizations that are always in need of helping hands.

Whether you volunteer at a homeless shelter, animal sanctuary, or your local library, we want to know where and how you like to give back to the community. Tell us about the places you currently volunteer or have volunteered in the past by filling out the survey below or emailing us at [email protected].
