Need help planning a trip to Nantucket? The New York Times has crafted an itinerary for your next (or first) getaway on the popular Massachusetts island.
The publication recently focused on Nantucket for its popular “36 Hours” series, and recommended things to do and places to eat on the tony island over a 36-hour time period.
“A small slice of land off the coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts, Nantucket offers an escape into a fairy-tale setting where natural beauty, historic charm and upscale appeal converge,” wrote the publication.
Some of the must-see attractions on the island include The Whaling Museum; the 1686 Jethro Coffin House, the oldest house on Nantucket; the African Meeting House, one of the few surviving 19th century African American meeting houses in America; and the family-run Bartlett’s Farm.
Among the food and beverage hot spots the publication recommends hitting up are Lemon Press, a Persian-inspired cafe; The Juice Bar for homemade ice cream; Cru for upscale dockside dining; the Pearl for Japanese cuisine; Galley Beach for seafood; the Chicken Box for late-night live music; and Cisco Brewers, which it calls “a quintessential island experience.”
Other places worth checking out: Brant Point Lighthouse, which the publication calls one of the most photographed spots on the island, and ‘Sconset Bluff Walk. For shopping, The New York Times recommends stopping in Blue Beetle, Bodega, and Murray’s Toggery Shop. And for accommodations, travelers can’t go wrong booking at the White Elephant, The Nantucket Inn, and Faraway, wrote the publication.

Nantucket was recently named among the East Coast beach towns that are even better in the fall by Conde Nast Traveler.
