With the NBA’s free agency set to kick off Monday evening and trades already made following the 2025 NBA Draft, the Celtics‘ roster remains in flux.

Starting at 6 p.m., the team will be able to negotiate with free agents and agree to deals – although they can’t be officially signed until July 6.

But the start of free agency doesn’t necessarily mean the Celtics will be able to dish out major cash; the team is still roughly $4 million shy of the second luxury tax apron, as of Sunday. This means they’ll either have to re-sign their own free agents starting Monday evening, or sign players to the veteran’s minimum.

So far, the Celtics traded starters Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis to shred salary and avoid having to pay millions in the luxury tax.

Georges Niang and Anfernee Simons were recently acquired, with their lower salaries helping to cut costs.

The team also drafted 19-year-old Hugo González of Spain, before adding Amari Williams and Max Shulga in the second round.

On Sunday, the Celtics also reportedly picked up JD Davison’s $2.27 million team option for next season, a league source told The Boston Globe, but the source said the deal will remain nonguaranteed to maintain future flexibility.
