One way to honor Black History Month is curled up with a compelling book that educates, inspires, and celebrates Black voices.
Classic works from authors like Toni Morrison and James McBride continue to inspire readers as do newly released titles from authors like Ta-Nehisi Coates and Kiley Reid.
In 2024, Percival Everett received the National Book Award for Fiction with his latest title “James.” (Also, a Boston.com reader favorite.) According to reader Jules in Hopkinton, the retelling of Mark Twain’s “Huckleberry Finn” “gets under your skin and you keep thinking about it and James long after you read the last words.”
Books by Black authors make a mighty impact on readers, and we want to know your favorites. We’re looking to update our guide with your latest recommendations.
Tell us: What book by a Black author could you not put down? Did you find yourself between the pages of a coming-of-age story or historical fiction? Was there a gripping autobiographical novel or comic book with a thrilling narrative? Is there a children’s book that made you (and your little one) feel seen?
