After being sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on Monday, Donald Trump quickly issued a slew of executive orders on his first day as president.
The orders tallied 26 in total and made sweeping decisions on everything from the southern border to TikTok to federal bureaucracy. Executive orders have the force of law and require no action by the Congress to be enacted, according to the American Bar Association.
Whether it’s his effort to end birthright citizenship for some children born to immigrants or withdrawing from the World Health Organization, we want to know if you will be impacted by Trump’s executive orders and actions. Trump issued several executive orders repealing decisions made by former president Biden, including an order repealing 78 executive orders issued by the former president. Other orders rename Denali and the Gulf of Mexico, and reinstate the federal death penalty.
Trump issued several executive orders aimed at overhauling federal bureaucracy, whether it be making it easier to hire and fire certain federal civil servants, blocking federal hiring based on race, sex, or religion, or revoking security clearances for individuals who he claimed were engaged in “misleading and inappropriate political coordination with the 2020 Biden presidential campaign.”
Trump’s executive orders regarding foreign policy emphasize an “America First” agenda, and include an order to withdraw from the World Health Organization and delay the U.S. ban on the app TikTok, which is owned by Chinese company ByteDance, for 75 days, among others.
Trump reversed several Biden-era restrictions on drilling and extraction in Alaska and pulled the U.S. out of The Paris Agreement, among other environmental executive orders.
Immigration reform held a prominent place in Trump’s executive orders, and included deploying troops to the southern border, ending birthright citizenship, and restricting federal funds for sanctuary cities, among others.
Trump dismantled federal DEI programs, and defined gender as binary and rolled back protections for transgender people.
