Whether you made a New Year’s resolution to drop steak or you are a vegan for life, finding a filling plant-based dish at a Greater Boston restaurant can be tough. But you’re not alone.

Almost every friend group has at least one individual searching for a meatless option. Despite the vegan food market growing globally, the Boston area dining scene is not known for its non-meat options. A WalletHub study on the best U.S. cities for vegetarians and vegans found that Boston ranked near the bottom at 71 out of 100.

But there are still several spots in and around the Boston to get excited about. A new plant-based restaurant like PLNT Burger recently opened in Coolidge Corner. Readers have named Life Alive, Veggie Galaxy, Lulu Green, True Bistro, and Clover as their top picks in recent years.

Reader Alyssa from the South End recommended Clover in 2022. “The chickpea fritter pita sandwich is one of the only dishes I can repeat on end and never get tired [of],” she wrote.

Though you don’t need an entire menu with only plant-based options. Sometimes, you just need a delicious vegan or vegetarian dish at a spot while dining out with a group of carnivores.
