Dave Portnoy warms the heart of pizzeria owner in latest ‘One Bite’ review

“A lot of times it’s about the people, not just the pizza.”

Dave Portnoy has long been known to ruffle feathers when it comes to his One Bite Pizza Reviews. But, just like a fresh pie out of the oven, one of his latest reviews at a Salem restaurant will also warm your heart.

The Mass. native and Barstool Sports founder was back in the North Shore recently for his YouTube series, where he visits recommended restaurants around the U.S. and primarily rates their pizza.

Portnoy visited seven local Mass. pizzerias during his latest visit, with a memorable stop at Amazing Pizza & More in Salem. He was met with a warm and exciting embrace from the restaurant’s owner Jacqui Field.

The review was posted on Dec. 9 where Field can be heard saying, “Dave Portnoy’s in the house!” In the video, he responded: “It’s like a 9.2 before I even give this to her.” While 9.2 out of 10 seems like a great score, it is a feat for any slice to break the threshold of about 6.9 according to a 2023 estimate made by CT Insider, especially considering the self-proclaimed critic does not hold back.

“I’m so thankful you’re here,” Field said amidst a shower of compliments. “He’s our man.”

“Jacqui’s guests have become her family. She cooks her amazing food from scratch with the highest quality ingredients – organic, non-GMO, natural, cold / expeller pressed oils, grass-fed meats & free-range poultry,” according to the restaurant’s website.

Before even taking a bite, Portnoy says that “he already knows [the pizza] is made with such love it’s going to just blow my face off.” Ordering a plain cheese pizza as always, Portnoy gave the slice a rating of 8.1, putting Amazing Pizza at a tie for second with Cindy’s Pizza & Subs in Swampscott, among the other North Shore spots he visited.

“I can see why I loved it before,” said Portnoy after his first two bites. Immediately, Portnoy applauded the fluffiness and crunch, as well as being able to taste the freshness of the ingredients.

“A lot of times it’s about the people, not just the pizza,” he said. “If you watch this video and you don’t want to support her, you got rocks in your head.”
