After a nail-biting 2024 election season, Donald Trump has been elected the 47th president of the United States.
The race was a historic one on all accounts. Trump was the first former U.S. president to be convicted of a crime, the first president in American history to be impeached twice, the first to run again after impeachment, and the first impeached president to be elected.
The 2024 election was also historic for unprecedented political violence and polarization across the nation. Trump faced multiple assassination attempts and the country has become increasingly more divided – Democrats and Republicans remain farther apart ideologically today than at any time in the past 50 years, according to a 2022 Pew Research Center study.

Harris and Trump, too, differed largely on campaign issues, and the lead-up to the election was one marked largely by chaos. So, what will the next four years look like?
Trump’s second-term in office will likely reshape America and its relationship with the world. As tensions run high nationally and globally, many might wonder: What will the future of our democratic process, access to abortion, immigration, climate change, and foreign policy look like for the next four years, under a Trump presidency?
