Although Boston has now escaped the 100-degree swelter, the city is still in the thick of summer heat with temperatures staying well into the 80s throughout the July 4th weekend.
Here are some fun ways to stay cool this season — whether you prefer to venture outside or stay indoors with air conditioning.
For safety information during extreme heat, the City of Boston released updated resources and cooling guides for residents.
Try a top reader-recommended ice cream shop in Greater Boston, Somerville and Cambridge, or Cape Cod. And, if ice cream isn’t for you, check out all the best bakeries in the region for everything from cannolis to doughnuts to baklava.
Stop by one of the dozens of pools and splash pads in Boston for a refreshing quick dip in the water, or get tickets to one of the many water parks throughout New England.
Visit one of the beautiful beaches New England has to offer, including reader favorites across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Plus, Coast Guard Beach in Cape Cod and Bar Harbor, Maine, were recently ranked highly as some of the best beaches in the nation.
And don’t forget to bring a bookseller-recommended beach read with you.
As new eateries pop up across Greater Boston, this is your chance to stay up to date on Boston’s food scene while staying cool inside a restaurant. As we enter seafood season, you can also try these local seafood spots in and around Seaport, or find a clam shack near you.
Stay under the tree cover at one of the many green spaces in the city — all recommended by readers — such as the Arnold Arboretum, the Rose Kennedy Greenway, and Blue Hills Reservation.
Stop by a reader-favorite movie theater to see new releases, such as “Materialists” and “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning.” Or stay inside your air-conditioned home and watch something new on streaming platforms.
Find a fun activity hosted in your area on our events calendar, with a list of top weekend events updated each week. Plus, check out what must-see concerts are happening throughout the summer, including some ones at smaller venues.
