Earlier this summer, when we were muddling through 100-degree days, we asked readers how they get through a heatwave, and they shared their recommendations for staying cool both indoors and out.

Several readers said their first move when the temperatures start to rise is to head to the beach. Among the favorites readers submitted were Revere Beach, Nahant Beach, and the Marshfield beaches.

“It’s close to my house, I can usually find parking within 30 minutes, and the water is cold enough this time of year to be refreshing, but not so cold that it’s painful,” said Elizabeth, from Medford, said of Revere Beach. “Plus, I love the ice cream and restaurants nearby.”

Maura of Arlington wrote: “Castle Island is great for an afternoon/early evening walk on a hot day. … Wear your bathing suit under your clothes and take a quick dip before heading home.”

Readers also mentioned spending time at local parks, pools, and outdoor sprinklers like the Christian Science Plaza’s splash fountain. “We love the shore of Jamaica Pond. Not hot at all, super comfy under big trees,” Chris of Boston said.

Piche in Holden recommended the town’s pool. “Holden Pool. It’s kid-friendly, not dirty, and near parks to go play before or after.”

When the weather gets humid and sticky, however, many readers said they prefer to stay indoors in the air-conditioned privacy of their own homes. “Disgusting being outdoors,” said one reader. “100% humidity, dust, and pollen flying around? I don’t think outdoors is a good place to be!”

For those who don’t have regular access to air conditioning, it can take work to stay cool during the summer. During the last heatwave, Acting Mayor Kim Janey declared a heat emergency and opened cooling centers around the city from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those centers remain open for the duration of the summer.

With Boston being blessed with a stretch of good weather and sunshine in the coming days, we want to hear from apartment dwellers.

How are you beating the heat and keeping yourself cool in your apartment? Do you have any tips and tricks for those without air conditioning? Are you getting by with fans and minimal activity indoors, or heading to outdoor spaces in hopes of catching a cooling breeze?
