These are the top destinations for ‘revenge travel,’ according to Boston.com readers
"We are ready to start exploring the world again."
If you have some big travel plans marked on your calendar in the next few months, you’re not alone.
Boston.com recently asked readers if they were planning any “revenge travel” following the continued trend of decreasing COVID-19 cases and loosening restrictions, and most respondents said yes, they were “packing their bags.”
Nearly one third of respondents still felt hesitant and said they were not planning any travel, and 13% were thinking about it. Sampson from Salem said, “I’ll be staying home munching on Doritos.”
Ahead we rounded up a sampling of majority reader responses on their anticipated destinations and who will be in the seat next to them.
Responses are lightly edited for clarity.
Many readers are destined for warm weather and making dreams come true.

Warm weather was a theme for many readers making travel plans, as well as trips to Disney.
“My wife and I are planning to fly to Fort Myers, Florida,” Robert P. from Brookline said. “I look forward to getting out of the cold of Boston and wiggle my toes in the white sandy beaches in Southern Florida.”
“We have a cruise booked for July, but in the meantime are taking an impromptu trip to Tampa,” Sara from Plymouth said. “No plans or itinerary — just leaving to where it’s warm and the scenery is different!”
“Texas this month, New Orleans in May, Hilton Head in August and Disney (again) in October!” Kristen in Waltham said.
“Savannah, GA this month, Nashville, TN in June and Disney World in October,” said one reader, who also said a trip to London was on the table.
Several respondents said that the future held travel for family celebrations, as well as visits to old friends.
“Disney World and Universal Orlando in Mid May for 8 Days,” Jody from East Boston said. “Looking forward to celebrating my niece’s 21st birthday in Disney World.”
“This summer, my wife and I are flying from Boston to San Diego for my niece’s wedding,” Royster from Buzzards Bay said. “We’re planning on staying in that area for 10 days. Wineries and baseball games.”
Others are taking overdue trips abroad.

Other readers said that their revenge travel plans are taking them overseas on trips out of the country, with many planning trips to Europe.
“I’m planning to visit my cousins in Germany after two years of waiting for Covid to pass. I’m hoping to go in late summer,” Judah L. from Beacon Hill said.
“I’ll be going to Ireland for Spring Break with my dad,” Danny O. from South Boston said. Danny also said he’d be making trips stateside to see friends in different parts of the country.
“I’ll be heading out to explore Iceland,” Jessica from Maynard said. “This trip will offer the best of both worlds, adventure and relaxation. Being vaccinated and boosted we are ready to start exploring the world again.”
“In July I’m finally off to the Amalfi Coast for 2 weeks. It has been postponed since 2020,” Chris C. from North Billerica said. “I will then go to Iceland for 2 weeks in September.”
Some readers said they already took their ‘revenge travel’ trips.

“My ‘revenge travel’ happened last year,” Jaimin K. from Hopkinton said. “I went to Bahamas, Iceland, Italy/Austria, Chile and India in 2021. Planning to go to Turkey and Egypt this year.”
“We already did to Austria, Germany, Denmark and Sweden for 3 weeks in November,” Winston S. from Roslindale. “Unlike Boston, Denmark had no masks to include indoors and had Christmas markets open. Glad we went because Christmas here in Boston was ridiculous and draconian.”
“Went on safari in Tanzania with friends to celebrate my 40th birthday in February and it was fabulous!” Kathryn M. from Boston said “It was just what we needed to reset after the past 2 years.”
