There’s a lot to be mad about in the world. No matter what it is that may be bothering you, it can be good to let out all of your emotions in one big burst. Cue the primal scream.
This is exactly what it sounds like: screaming at the top of your lungs, as loud as you can for as long as you can. One group embracing the cathartic nature of primal screams is the School of Mom, who recently held their fourth annual scream at a Charlestown field.
@bostondotcom *Sound warning: This video contains screaming.* Last week, we met a local group of moms for their fourth annual collective scream at Charlestown High School. It was a literal hoot. Sarah Harmon, therapist and Founder of The School of MOM, told us it started as a way to let out pent up pandemic stress. She plans to keep it going as long as people feel they need to scream. Speaking of, we recently asked Boston.com readers where the best place to let out a primal scream was in Boston. SO MANY of you felt strongly. Among the screeching sounds of the T. By Boston Harbor. Inside walk-in refrigerators at work was a popular one. (Collectively, are we good? Are we okay??) Harmon suggested the Charlestown High School field (a personal favorite) but said that anywhere you can find a moment within your routine to release suffices. What do you think? “I did this at the Blue Hills during the week at midday thinking I was alone on a side trail. I checked everywhere multiple times. When I finally thought I was alone I let out the loudest scream. Then I let out another. And another. Then while I sat in silence and took a deep breath, I heard a man walking on the trail rocks. He looked at me and asked if I was okay. I responded saying I thought I was alone and just needed to let out a scream. He giggled and kept walking.”
