If you’re headed to the grocery store to stock up before this weekend’s snowstorm like many others across New England, then you’ve probably already got the basics like bottled water, kitty litter, bread, and milk covered.

But if you’re looking for some snowstorm snacks and comfort food inspiration to add to your cart to keep you cozy and satisfied through the weekend, then Boston.com readers have you covered.

Current forecasts show a major nor’easter hitting Massachusetts this Saturday with heavy snowfall and wind gusts. Meteorologist Dave Epstein said his prediction was “perhaps the highest snowfall potential totals map I have ever made.”

We asked readers what’s on their typical winter storm grocery list and they delivered.

Some readers said when thinking about the best food for snowstorms, they like to strike a balance of convenience and comfort.

“For me chicken wings and other quick heat up in my air fryer is essential. Lots of different stuff to make pizzas as well,” said Jette M. from Lynnfield. “And I always have stew meat and vegetable to simmer in my slow cooker. The aroma is enough to calm you down and not think about the storm. Some tequila and fresh limes to make a few margaritas are in store as well. Get out there and enjoy the snow!”

Tequila, bourbon, beer, and a host of other adult beverages are popular buys among readers. Diane for Natick said her shopping list includes “soup-making ingredients and cognac, for medicinal purposes, of course.”

“I don’t understand the panic purchase of bread and milk before a storm,” she added. “I can think of better things to eat. Also, most people could easily live a month on the contents of their refrigerator and pantry.”

In addition to the snack suggestions, readers also urged some restraint when making our way through the grocery aisles.

“Nothing to panic about,” said Matt from Chestnut Hill. “No need to stock up like the world is coming to an end and this is the last time you’ll be able to buy groceries.”

If you’re looking for inspiration for what comfort foods to add to your grocery list today, you’ll find some selections of what readers plan to add to their pantries in preparation for this weekend’s storm.
