"I run for the cancer warriors, I run for me, I run for everybody that can’t."

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.

Name: Michelle Rosenblatt
Age: 54
From: Mansfield

When I was standing at Mile 17 volunteering with the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, watching Susan Hurley, the leader of charity teams, come running up the hill with a big smile on her face, knowing that she was facing the biggest battle of her life — stage four ovarian cancer — and knowing she had just finished chemo and radiation and surgery, yet there she was running and doing it with so much positivity, I knew I had to run.

I run for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation as they are near to my heart; I have been supporting them since I heard about Joe‘s battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. I ran for the foundation in 2018 after meeting an incredible cancer survivor who is a part of the organization. I feel blessed that I am strong enough to be able to run this most incredible prestigious, honorable race in the world and blessed that I am strong enough mentally and physically to conquer these miles after spending most of my life struggling with an eating disorder.

So I run for the cancer warriors, I run for me, I run for everybody that can’t, and I run to raise dollars for the cancer patients, who so desperately need it and I run to stay strong in my own recovery.
