Name: Erin Quinn
Age: 18
From: Duxbury
Growing up in Boston, both the Boston Public Library and the Boston Marathon have been large parts of my life. I always admired the runners, including my aunt, when I went to cheer on Marathon Monday. A few years ago I connected the dots that I would turn 18 and become eligible during my senior year of high school, and my mind has been set ever since.
Though I’ve been a part of my high school’s track team, I’ve never done anything of this caliber. It requires mental toughness, but whenever I don’t feel like going the extra mile, I draw strength from this amazing community. In 2013, I stood near the finish line on that fateful day, which only made the marathon even more inspiring.
I will run this year with the strength of our community in mind, as well as all the ways the Boston Public Library supports it. I am blessed to say I’ve surpassed my fundraising goal, which is truly a full-circle moment to help fund the efforts I’ve benefitted from, whether it was a children’s event or a digital database or simply a stunning study spot. I elaborate further on my fundraising page. The Boston Marathon proves, year after year, how amazing this city is, and I cannot wait to finally experience it as a runner.
