Why I'm Running

We consider ourselves the “cancer-fighting family.” My daughter Ashley and I are running the Boston Marathon for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This is Ashley’s first marathon, and my fifth Boston Marathon (fourth with Dana-Farber).

My older daughter Sydney, age 22, is a senior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology. She has interned in a lab at Dana-Farber for the past two summers and has been offered a full-time position there after her graduation in May.

Sydney is attacking cancer from the research end, while Ashley and I are attacking it by helping to raise funds for the brilliant doctors at Dana-Farber.

One hundred percent of funds raised go to the Claudia Adams Barr program, a research division of Dana-Farber.

The research done by these scientists enables patients to increase their quality and quantity of life after their diagnosis. Due to the fact that there are two of us running, our fundraising goal is double, so we need your help to help us achieve our ultimate goal — a world without cancer.
