Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood is home to a lot of shopping destinations — the Prudential Center, Copley Place, and Boylston Street are just a few of them. One of the most popular, however, is Newbury Street.

With warmer spring weather, people are returning outdoors and traversing the city again, and many will visit Newbury Street to eat, drink, and shop.

A bit later on, summer will be bringing Open Newbury Street back, giving pedestrians the full width of the mile-long street to walk down and explore all of its stores and restaurants.

We asked readers to tell us their favorite local business on Newbury Street and they shared 15 shops and restaurants to check out during your next trip.

Located on the center of the street is Salon Monét, a beauty salon that reader Karen D. from Boston called an “oasis.” The salon offers customers eyelash services and various hair services, such as color, extensions, cuts, and styling.

“I’ve been a client of the salon along with my mother since 2006 faithfully. The salon has become an experience we truly look forward to for the hair treatment and friendly atmosphere that this salon gives,” said Elizabeth from West Roxbury. “Amazing staff that has become family. Products and services for all hair types.”

Closer to the Massachusetts Avenue end of Newbury Street is Johnny Cupcakes, but don’t show up if you’re hungry. Described as the “world’s first T-shirt bakery,” the retail store is bakery-themed and only whips up colorful tees and other clothing items.

“The Johnny Cupcakes story is an inspiring one: a brand that was started with the humblest of beginnings and has built a worldwide reputation for quality and outside-of-the-box marketing,” said Chris W. from Beverly.

Another Newbury staple mentioned by readers was Trident Booksellers & Cafe, an indie bookstore with a cafe right inside. The shop also hosts various series of weekly events, from poetry open mic nights on Sundays to Friday night trivia competitions.

“It has books, a wonderful cafe, and friendly staff,” said Jayson from Back Bay. “What more can one ask for in a local bookstore?”
