Boston.com readers have strong feelings about Maine seafood.

After TravelMag went on a seafood road trip in Maine and named 10 “can’t-miss” spots, many Boston.com readers were largely unimpressed and offered more than 20 alternatives they say are better.

Of the 109 readers who answered our informal poll about the TravelMag list, the clear favorite was The Clam Shack in Kennebunkport, chosen by 26% of readers. But most readers — 42% — chose “other” as the top spot and listed their own favorite.

Bob’s Clam Hut in Kittery, missing from the TravelMag list, has the “BEST CLAMS IN THE WORLD,” wrote reader Brian from Warren, R.I.

Peter H. from Wales wrote the following about Fish & Whistle in Biddeford, also absent from the list, “Simply the best fish and chips that you will ever have.”

Roy from Methuen, known as “a haddock sandwich aficionado,” called the blackened haddock sandwich at Dolphin Marina & Restaurant in Harpswell (not on the list either) “top notch.”
