In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.
Name: Ruth Levesque
Age: 39
From: Norwell
I am running my first ever marathon as a charity runner for my hospital, South Shore Hospital. I am running for the Grayken Center which specializes in behavioral health and substance use disorders.
As an OB/GYN physician, these resources are essential for my pregnant patients in order to allow them to achieve healthy pregnancies. The last two years have been challenging for everyone — both those in health care and those seeking medical attention. Being able to support my patients with these resources on the South Shore is priceless.
I am also running to show my own two young children that with hard work you can do anything that you put your mind to, whether it be raising $10,000 for charity or running 26.2 miles! I cannot wait to achieve this goal on April 18.
