"It is an honor to carry the names of the fallen military and first responders to show our respect for their service."
In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.
Name: James Shore
Age: 57
From: Northborough
I am rucking in the 2022 Tough Ruck for all my brothers and sisters, who have served with me and before me, and for those who are no longer with us.
We represent the one percent of the population that provides security so that everyone else can enjoy their freedom. It is an honor to carry the names of the fallen military and first responders to show our respect for their service.
This is an endurance event as I am walking 26.2 miles while raising funds to support Military Friends Foundation for all the great work that they do for the fallen and their families.
I can’t state enough how these rucks are therapy for me, especially for dealing with my PTSD. Participating with all my brothers and sisters allows me to get outside which is a great way to remove all of my stress.
Winston the Wonder Dog has rucked with me for the past five consecutive years. I am excited that he is my motivator and BFF.
It’s cool that this event is still associated with the Boston Marathon as all the finishers are still recognized by the B.A.A. with medals each year.
