"Although we may be biased as an ICU nurse/doctor team, we couldn't think of a better cause to run for."
In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.

From: Newton
My partner, Justine Lyons, and I are running the 126th Marathon with Team Beth Israel Lahey Health.
This year, Team BILH is running for ICU Healthcare Heroes and, although we may be biased as an ICU nurse/doctor team, we couldn’t think of a better cause to run for. Justine is an ICU nurse and I’m a MICU physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
For the last two years, we have been on the frontline of the pandemic working alongside colleagues who have risen to the occasion time and time again for each and every surge of this pandemic.
We have witnessed our colleagues transform from coworkers to heroes in countless stories of dedication, selflessness, compassion and endurance. We have been honored to work at BILH and stand on the frontlines with all the staff at BILH.
They are an inspiration to us to keep going both in the hospital and on the running route.
