Why I’m Running: ‘I told her one day I would run the marathon with her’
Daniel Mulgrew is running Boston to raise money for Dana-Farber.
In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.
Name: Daniel Mulgrew
Age: 37
From: Framingham
My mom was the healthiest person I knew. Even though she was a non-smoker, she was diagnosed with lung cancer in June of 2021. She was receiving treatment at Dana-Farber, but her cancer was extremely aggressive and she passed away on September 27, 2021.
My mom was an avid runner and ran the Boston Marathon in 2000. I told her one day I would run the marathon with her. I am going to do that this year in her honor while raising money for Dana-Farber so that hopefully one day no one will have to experience the pain of losing someone to cancer.
